UK Tour Day 7. The End Of The World?

Driving out of Glasgow proved to be more difficult than we thought it would be.  Once we crawled our way out of the city proper and on to the motorway we discovered a road completely untouched by any kind of plow, shovel, salt or sand.  The lanes were instead newly paved with black ice, which meant we had to drive very slowly to avoid bad, bad things.  The kinds of things we saw had happened to hundreds of snowed-trapped abandoned cars and jack-knifed trucks on the side of the road.  It’s a good thing that we didn’t need to travel with a trailer on this particular run because that would have presented a whole new set of problems.  Had we left even an hour later than we did we would have gotten totally stuck as the motorways we took were declared closed.  We’re pretty sure Jesse Malin and his camp missed this potential disaster by a mere 20-30 minutes.

Ultimately we got through the drive safely (but not without a sleeping Samaha falling off his van bench a couple of times - don’t worry he’s ok) and arrived at Leicester’s university campus.  This place was a total maze but thankfully one without snow all over the place.  We got to the O2 Academy venue, which is right in the middle of the campus and were able to have dinner.  We heard some people were singing happy birthday to someone so we joined in and offered some guest list spots to the show to the birthday girl.  She ended up coming to the gig (which was a lot of fun for us) with a few of her friends and we shared a bottle of wine in her honor afterwards.

This particular night was low key for the most part.  Leicester becomes a pretty sleepy place early on in the night so there wasn’t much for us to do.  This was fine as we knew that we were going to be in London the next night with some friends from home and a couple we had met at other shows on the tour.

Pictures to come.
