Bowie
While we were down in Myrtle Beach we stopped into a record store called Kilgore Trout’s and I picked up a Mojo Magazine “Special Limited Edition” issue about David Bowie for $5. Perfect van reading material.
Though he’s now considered to be this iconic member of rock and roll royalty, the guy’s career was a long uphill struggle full of flops and missteps before real success came. Even then the only way he was able to maintain it was constant re-invention and that didn’t always go well. Once you ignore a lot of the journalistic boot licking, it makes for a good read because it humanizes an artist whose personal growth I never really understood much because maybe I couldn’t get passed some of his more alienating personas/artistic directions. I uploaded some photos from the magazine for your viewing pleasure. I’m going to go listen to Hunky Dory…
